GUWAHATI, Oct 29:  With as many as 78 tiol and intertiol films taking part, Guwahati Intertiol Film Festival (GIFF) is growing interest among the budding filmmakers of the region to make parallel films.

Speaking to this reporter, young director of award-winning short film Alert Condition: Red , Xahid Khan said, “GIFF has come as a blessing for the youths of Assam and the Northeast who are film enthusiasts or have been planning a career in filmmaking. It is making us know more about parallel cinemas and their value. This will help young filmmakers to understand the art of making films on a unique topic which is very hard to execute.”

“This film festival will help Assamese film industry to lure new audience. Assamese films come with rich contexts and artistic styles, but have no larger audience who prefer to commercial films. After attending the wonderful collection of parallel movies in GIFF, I wish they will learn and understand more about global cinema, besides realizing the real worth of Assamese film industry,” Khan added.

Khan further said that he has plans for making parallel films in the near future, and he is going to execute whatever he is learning in GIFF.

Another film enthusiast Kanu Kumar Lashkar said, “This festival is bringing a revolution of interest in parallel films amongst the budding filmmakers and film enthusiasts. This is the first time-ever that a huge collection of fantastic art films are being screened here. The crowd of young people to the festival says how the interest of commercial films among youths is now moving towards parallel films.”

Kanu said that there is a true beauty in parallel films. It is not for general public who enjoy spices and dance numbers, but for those who see movie as a form of art.

“It’s good to see that the new generation is learning the real taste of parallel movies and showing interest to make such. If this is followed on a serious note, maybe that day is not far when many masterpieces of parallel movies will be produced in Northeast India,” he added.
