GUWAHATI, May 16: In an attempt to improve higher education in the state, particularly in the areas of technical education and research, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi iugurated a Centre for Advancement in Education and Research of Curtin University at a function held at Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati today. The Centre is a collaborative initiative between Government of Assam and Curtin University of Australia.
Speaking on the occasion, Gogoi said that the Centre would bring about paradigm shift in the higher education sector by undertaking studies in the areas of gap alysis, designing curriculum relevant to present day requirement and the latest trends of research studies. Terming his Government's collaborative agreement with Curtin University as a milestone in the field of education, Gogoi said that the whole purpose of agreement is to raise the standard of research and redirect it to the development of the State. He also stressed the need of expanding the collaborative partnership to incorporate the sectors like agriculture and tural resources to lend credence to the State Government's bid to sustaible development.
Under the partnership, Curtin University will work collaboratively with the State in developing and implementing world class Washington Accord accredited programme to improve the level of technology, education and research in Assam. State Education, Pension and Public Grievances Minister Sarat Barkotoky, while speaking on the occasion, said the collaborative partnership was entered into with Curtin University to augment research capacity and use it as a catalyst to solve fundamental problems in the state. Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla, Additiol Chief Secretary Administrative Reforms & Training, Information Technology and Education Department, Rajiv Kumar Bora, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Development, Curtin University, Prof. Brett Krik, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Curtin University Prof. Andris Stelbovics, along other dignitaries and academics, were present on the occasion.
