Gunotsav begins in eight districts today

GUWAHATI, April 3: The phase 1 of the much-talked-about Gunotsav is going to start from tomorrow in the primary schools in as many as eight districts in the State. It will continue till April 7.
The eight districts where the Gunotsav is being held in phase 1 are Barpeta, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup(M), Lakhimpur, Morigaon and West Karbi Anglong. Apart from Assam Government; SSA, Assam; SCERT and Directorate of Elementary Education are involved in Gunotsav that is aimed at evaluating the standard of education in schools from Class II to class VIII. Apart from the Chief Minister, the Education and other ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, police officers, gazetted officers and others will visit the schools in the eight districts in the State from tomorrow.
Talking to newsmen in the city today, Kamrup(M) Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu said: “There are 708 schools in Kamrup(M) – 262 in Dimoria Block and 446 in Guwahati Block – with a total enrollment of 70,883 from Class II to Class VIII – 43706 in lower primary and 27177 in upper primary. The enrollment of students in Dimoria Block is 18,232 and that of Guwahati Block is 53,651. As many as 270 exterl evaluators – 91 for the schools in Dimoria Block and 179 for the schools in Guwahati Block— will be visiting the schools from tomorrow. As many as 64 liaison officers, 22 in Dimoria and 42 in Guwahati, will be involved in the exercise. This part, 708 nodal teachers are also involved in the grand exercise. As many as 70,883 OMR sheets and as many question papers will be used in the evaluation process in Kamrup(M) district – 18,232  sheets in Dimoria Block and 52651 sheets in Guwahati Block. Each of the evaluators will have to evaluate at least three schools a day for three consecutive days – from April 5-7 in Guwahati.
