AZARA, Feb 3: They get filled LPG cylinders just by answering their doors, thanks to the home delivery system prevalent in the State. However, to lodge a complaint against irregularities they have to travel some 12 km! This distance, they feel, is one of the factors leading to a whole lot of irregularities in LPG supply in their area.
A racket of brokers is active in the Azara area on the outskirts of Guwahati, creating problems for genuine LPG consumers. When a person without any LPG card needs cooking gas he/she opts to pay more than the actual price of the cooking fuel. Such people often rush to a few shops nearby who deal with LPG supply, even though they are not authorized to carry on such deal. They just hoard filled cooking gas cylinders so as to make money. They, according to the local people here, have link with whose working in gas agencies.  The biggest losers in the entire affair are genuine card holders who are deceived by the racket. The situation is loaded against genuine card holders of LPG. They get cooking fuel in their homes. They, however, have to travel some 12 km to reach Maligaon in Guwahati if they are to lodge any complaints against the irregularities in gas supply. This 12-km consumer-supplier distance is enough to allow racketeers to do a whole lot of irregularities in the supply of cooking gas that is too important to be without for any. It is not possible for everybody facing such problems to travel 12 km to lodge a complaint with the gas agency. The LPG consumers of the locality have long been demanding intervention of the State Food and Civil Supplies Department to put an end to the mece. Their cry, however, continues to fall on the deaf ears of those at the helm of affairs.
