GUWAHATI, May 20: The Sodou Axom Jatiya Swahid Parial Samanyrakhi Parishad today raised a slew of demands to the newly elected BJP-led grand alliance which will form the new government in the State. Addressing mediapersons in the city, the organisation demanded timely implementation of the Assam accord for which 855 people had to lose their lives. The press meet was addressed by the organization's president Kushal Pathak and general secretary Manik Chandra Debth. Ruing the failure of the government to implement the Assam accord, Pathak said, "30 years have passed since the accord was signed. During the last 15 years, the Congress government in the State did not do anything to implement any of its clauses. Even AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi did not show any interest in the issue. This clearly proves that the Congress has been neglecting the Assam accord all along." Stressing that the new government should do what the Congress could not perform in its three terms, the general secretary demanded that the martyrs of the Assam agitation be given the same honour which has been given to the martyrs of the Kargil war. "The new government should also take steps to stop rhino poaching and generate employment opportunities for unemployed youths of the families of martyrs," Debth said.
