DIMORIA, Aug 27: A protest by the nursing students of Amiya Bharali School of Nursing turned hostile on Thursday when the magement refused to give to their demands.
It has been alleged that the institute, recognized by Indian Nursing Council admitted 60 students from Assam to its fresh batch, though the intake capacity for the State is only 30. When the matter came to the notice of Indian Nursing Council, the magement decided to conduct fresh exams on Aug 26, 27 and 28. However, the students refused to appear the exam and confronted the principal of the institute. When both the parties failed to reach a consensus, the agitated students vandalized the office of the institute.
Meanwhile, the magement has informed that the exam was just a selection test for the main exam to be held on October 6.
It may be mentioned that earlier the institute also wrote to the Indian Nursing Council and Assam Nursing Council to increase the number of seats in the institute. A team of INC and ANC recently visited the institute and assured that the number of seats will be approved by the councils.
On the other hand, concerned citizens have expressed shock over the incident and blamed the institute for the present situation. They also questioned as why the institute admitted 60 students when there were only 30 available seats.
