GUWAHATI, Dec 14: Whose writ runs in the BJP in Assam? A million dollar question! The party in Assam is going to prepare fresh panels of probable candidates for the 2016 Assembly elections in the State. The reason? A section of ticket seekers and their leaders in the party are not happy with the existing panels of probable candidates.
With a section of ticket seekers in the party expressing their protest against the inclusion and deletion of the mes of some probable candidates in the panels, the issue was discussed at the December 2 meeting of the Election Magement Committee of the party held in New Delhi. In what can be called as a tight-rope walk, the election magement committee decided to make fresh panels without cancelling the existing ones so as to accommodate the ‘says’ of the aggrieved party leaders and workers.
The modus operandi, according to party sources, is that for the 36 district committees of the party in the State as many as 38 leaders have been made in-charges. The 38 in-charges are the ones who will make the panels of candidates against LACs falling under their respective district committees in consultation with the seekers of party tickets, leaders of district and mandal committees, office-bearers of the respective district and mandal committees, leaders of various morchas within the respective district and mandal committees, former presidents of district and mandal committees who are still active, and others.
According to party sources, the 38 in-charges of the 36 district committees have been asked to submit their panels of candidates of their respective districts to State party president Sarbanda Sonowal by December 20. On his part, Sonowal, who is also the chairman of the election committee, will place the new panels before the election magement committee for the selection of the fil list by comparing the two sets of panels – the old set and the new set.
The leaders who have been made in-charges of the 36 party districts are Ramen Deka and Ramkrish Ghose for Dhubri East, West and South; Bijaya Chakraborty and Chikimiki Talukdar for Barpeta and Bajali; Rajen Gohain and Harekrish Bharali for Goalpara and Bongaigaon; Kamakhya Prasad Tasha and Santanu Bharali for Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Majuli; Prasanta Phukan and Santanu Pujari for Sonitpur East and West; RP Sarma, Diganta Ghatowar and Moromi Mudoi Das for Udalguri and Darrang; Jadav Deka and Rajkumar Sarma for South Kamrup; Manoranjan Das and Aminul Lashkar for Baksa and lbari; Pankaj Pathak and Haricharan Boro for Kokrajhar and Chirang; Himanta Biswa Sarma and Bhabesh Kalita for Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi; Siddhartha Bhattacharyya and rayan Borkotoky for Kaliabor and Morigaon; Ajay Konwar and Pran Kumar Das for Guwahati and North Kamrup; Rajdwip Roy, Nirupam Das and Swarlata Pegu for Jorhat and Golaghat; Bijay Gupta and Ranjit Das for Sadiya and Tinsukia; Mission Ranjan Das and Mominul Aowal for Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong; Ranjit Dutta, Dilip Paul and Joyram Engleng for Dibrugarh and Sivasagar; and Rameswar Teli, Dilip Moran and Nilima Devi for gaon and Hojai.
