Patowary meets student body leaders

GUWAHATI, Nov 3: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary held a cordial discussion with representatives from various students’ organisations pertaining to issues related to Bongaigaon Refinery at Dispur today, a statement said.

District student leaders of Bongaigaon and Chirang representing All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All  Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), All Assam Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union (AKRASU), All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) and All BTC Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU) submitted a memorandum to the Industries and Commerce Minister and reiterated their demands for 100% engagement of both executives and non-executives posts from the State and North-East and setting up of a ‘Skill Development Centre’ in the area.  

They also demanded to expand the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities beyond sanitary constructions, as the provisions for the same are already in concurrence under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary assured that the government in principle would consider their demands and take appropriate measures to address the issues amicably according to the rules.

He added that the Memorandum of the organizations would be soon sent to the Union Minister of Petroleum and tural Gas.

He said that the Government has given major thrust on skill development of youth for which a new department mely ‘Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department’ has been recently created. The Minister further stated that 2% of the net profit of Bongaigaon Refinery is used for CSR activities and the authorities can channelise the fund for other charitable and social development activities as proposed by the student organizations.
