AZARA, July 6: Rani Tea Estate was reopened after five years today. It was closed on March 22, 2010 when its owner Mridul Bhattacharya shot at the locals, killing a boy, Pradip Murary, on the spot and leaving many injured. The TE has been opened after several meetings between owner representatives and social organizations of Rani that yielded to an agreement in the presence of Kamrup DC. The next of kin of the killed were paid Rs 3 lakh as compensation. The injured also got compensation.
