MIRZA, Oct 13: With funds raised from the public, the Mirza Anchalik Durga Puja  Mandap was iugurated by local social worker Anil Das today amid the oompah of bortals, staccato of dhols, khuls and other cultural programmes, including Ayati am.

The function was presided over by mandir construction committee president rayan Choudhury. Many people from Mirza and South Kamrup made generous dotions for the construction of the Durga Puja mandap. This Durga Puja will be held at the mandap.

The Durga Puja was started at Mirza in 1964 when many families from the Palasbari area had to shift to Mirza due to heavy erosion by the Brahmaputra that turned gobbling since 1950. People from other areas also settled at Mirza, and that added to the importance of the place. Around Rs 40 lakh has been spent to erect the structure. "Still more needs to be done. We can do that also. Everything is possible when we hold each other's hand to get a work done, whatever heavy it may be," Das said in his iugural speech.
