GUWAHATI, Sept 25: The contribution of State Bank of India (SBI) to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities is highest in the northeast.
Speaking as the chief guest at the SBI Pensioners’ Meet and 21st Annual General Meeting of the State Bank of India Pensioners’ Association (SBIPA), North Eastern Circle held at the Conference Hall of the SBI Local Head Office at Dispur in Guwahati on Sunday. PVSLN Murty, Chief General Mager of SBI NE Circle said, “The contribution of State Bank of India to CSR activities is highest in the North East. In the fincial year ending in March 2016, SBI had spent Rs 8.25 crore for various CSR projects in the region.”
Murty informed that this amount was higher than that spent by any other Circle out of a total of 14 Circles in the country. Most of this CSR budget was earmarked for activities relating to empowerment of the girl child, health and sanitation, skill development training, and education for the backward and deprived segments of the society.
Earlier in his welcome address, Syamal Chakrabarti, General Secretary SBIPA, also mentioned about the various social service initiatives taken up by the SBIPA.
The association has also undertaken similar initiatives for training of candidates for interviews, providing fans to girls’ schools, and honouring teachers were taken up by SBIPA zol/unit offices located in Silchar, Goalpara, and Dhubri respectively. A 15-member new executive committee was formed with A Buragohain as President, Tanuj Dhar & Prabin Borpujari – Vice Presidents, BC Kalita – General Secretary, Jagadish Sarma – Treasurer, and LC Mahanta – Joint Secretary.
The pensioners’ meet was attended by SBI General Mager PL Das, President of SBI Officers Association Dilip Roy Choudhury, and Vice President of SBI Staff Association Mukti Agarwalla, among others.
