GUWAHATI, April 9: Controversial Paramanda Rajbongshi on Sunday announced that he would take charge of the post of secretary general of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) next month.
The announcement came during a full-fledged executive committee meeting of the AXX held at Kamalpur in Kamrup district on Sunday. Rajbongshi, who was the centre of controversy for his alleged involvement in the ‘suicide’ of a former Xabha office-bearer, relinquished his post ‘temporarily’ in January. The reception committee of the centery session of the Xabha at Sivasagar had put a blanket ban on Rajbongshi’s participation in the session.
“I did not resign from the post but temporarily resigned from the post for smooth conduct of the centery session of the AXX at Sivasagar in February. I want to serve the Xahitya Xabha till my last breath, and thus will resume responsibility of secretary general from May 1,” Rajbongshi told reporters at Kamalpur.
The announcement of Rajbongshi created a heated debate in the Sunday’s executive meeting of AXX. In-charge general secretary of AXX Prahlad Tasa, however, requested Rajbongshi to take charge of the post.
On other hand, Dr Dhruba Jyoti Borah, who resigned from the post of president of AXX just before the Sivasagar session in February, has also expressed his desire to withdraw his resigtion and complete his term. Sources said Borah’s term is expected to expire in last part of this year.
The AXX is going to hold its biennial conference in 2020.
