Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development says that a citizen of India who has attained the age of 14 years is eligible to Register for employment assistance with the Employment Exchange which falls within the area where he/she normally reside. The data in 2023 says that 1.63 million persons are employed. The state of Meghalaya has 11 District Employment Exchanges and 2 Sub-divisional Employment Exchanges.
