Sky rocketing prices of vegetables

The manifold rise in the price of potato and onion, the most important kitchen staples has compounded the woes of the common people. The sky rocketing prices of other essential vegetables in the market are making the life miserable. There is hardly any vegetable in the market costing less than Rs 60 per kg.

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs which is the nodal department to oversee the prices of essential items in the market is not in a position to control the prices of the vegetables etc in the market. As reported in your esteem daily of October 30, scores of women staged a protest in the Beltola market on Thursday against the sky rocketing of prices of vegetables.

However, the retail vendors are not directly responsible for the rise in prices as they have to purchase from the wholesaler at a higher cost. The duty of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department is to control the wholesale market. Through your esteemed daily we would like to draw the attention of the highest authority of the State to direct the Minister along with the department to act so that the unscrupulous wholesale dealers cannot increase the cost of potato, onion and other vegetables at their whims.

The three princes of India

In the current scenario of Indian politics, the dynasty politics is still prevalent. Though India is not in monarchy system by any stretch of imagination yet some political parties are still following the dynastic principle. The Congress, RJD and the Samajwadi Party are still ruled by dynasty politics. In these parties who claim themselves to be super secular, the party workers are yet to come out of the ghosts of dynasty shackles. The above mentioned parties have doled out three so-called princes to Indian political system and they are Rahul Gandhi (Congress), Tejaswini Yadav (RJD) and Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party) and all three have one thing in common and that is they all claim themselves to be 'super secularists'. May God bless the trio.

OBC reservation in Sainik Schools

It is welcome to note that the Union Government has introduced a 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Sainik Schools from the academic session 2021-2022. The Sainik Schools Society manages 33 such residential schools in the nation under the Defense Ministry. The schools reserve 67 per cent of the seats for candidates from the State or the Union Territory in which the school is located and the remaining 33 per cent is reserved for those who come from outside that State or UT. These two lists will be termed List A and List B. On every listing, 15 per cent seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 7.5 per cent seats are for Scheduled Tribes and 27 per cent seats are for Other Backward Classes-Non-Creamy Layer OBC-NCL. This is a commendable move and ensuring reservation for the underprivileged sections according to the constitution and resolutions enacted by the Modi Government.
