Arunodoi Scheme 2.0 brings new hope

The 2020 Arunodoi cards were distributed to some new beneficiaries at a public meeting in Kokrajhar district.

This scheme is a way of helping the poorest of the poor. The Arunodoi Scheme was launched in October 2020 to provide financial assistance to more than 2.4 million poor families with the aim of empowering housewives. A total of Rs 50 lakh was allocated for women from poor families as beneficiaries, with each beneficiary receiving Rs 1,000 per month. This income is gradually increasing. Currently, this income has increased to Rs. 1,250, which is a relief for housewives. These schemes have been prepared for the people, and the people have benefited a lot.

Soaring prices of vegetables

With the recent price hike in vegetables, vegetable prices have been increasing continuously. The price of onion especially, is soaring in the daily market. This has a huge impact on the lower middle class and middle class. Not only onions, all green vegetables are marked at Rs 70-80 per kilogram, which is impossible for daily wage earners to buy. It's not a good sign for market systems. One important department of Assam government- Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department- has a lot of responsibility to the general people, and to balance the prices in the daily market properly. Yet, we have not seen any kind of role played by this department. In this concerning matter, the departmental minister should take stern action and discuss the matter with the suppliers and wholesale market, and adopt measures which will bring balance in the daily market prices, we think. Otherwise, the soaring market pieces will swallow the general public. So, in this matter of concern, the district administration and supplies department should take necessary steps and immediate action due to the public.

Issues created by garbage dumps

Improper disposal of garbage is one of the biggest problems in Guwahati city. Garbage dumps can be seen in different parts of the city. This creates a smelly environment in the area. In addition to this, the drains are blocked by the garbage dumped in them and create artificial floods. In some areas, half of the roads are filled with dumped garbage and sometimes this situation also creates traffic problems. Also, dumping of waste in the soil reduces soil fertility. Overall, it creates an unhealthy environment in any area.

The administration should pay attention to this issue because this is a very sad and unhealthy situation for the city. There is a significant role of the public, as well as the administration. If we used dustbins properly, then such an environment would never be created.

Golden Jubilee celebration of Sipajhar College

The Golden Jubilee celebration of Sipajhar College is commencing on November 17th and will end on November 19th, 2023, at the beautiful premises of Sipajhar College. Sipajhar College is a premier institution of higher education in Assam, situated near Sipajhar police station in the Darrang district. This college was established in 1971 to fulfil the need for higher education for rural and poor students who couldn't otherwise afford to go outside of their homes for higher education after matriculation. Now, students from rural areas of Darrang and other parts of Assam can easily avail themselves of higher education due to the rapid growth of communication and access to education. But, though there is ample opportunity for students to go outside their homes for higher education, still, the students of Darrang and some other adjunct districts come to Sipajhar College in large numbers to fulfil their dream of higher education. The reason is very simple: quality education at Sipajhar College in a conducive environment. To gain quality education from student-friendly, knowledgeable teachers, students come to Sipajhar College in good numbers for every academic session. During their stay at Sipajhar College, students develop some inner qualities in addition to getting an education. Qualities like humanity, respect for teachers and elders, and love for juniors, especially in lending a helping hand to a needy one. The college environment instills these good qualities in students. In Sipajhar College, teachers know each and every student by name, irrespective of subjects and departments, which is rare in other premier colleges and institutions. And teachers also get the same amount of respect from students, irrespective of their departments. Sipajhar College, in its more than fifty years of existence, has been producing thousands of sound minds who can fight and win in life and can contribute to nation-building by crossing all odds. Earlier, in the beginning, the establishment of this institution was the last option for higher education for poor and average students. Now this college has become the first dream and hope for many students due to its raising the bar in terms of education and establishing a conducive educational environment. On this big occasion of its golden jubilee, we are all excited to meet and rejuvenate our thoughts at the great Sipajhar College.
