Bankruptcy in thought and action!

I would like to expose the myth that surrounds and envelops the 'so-called intellectual Bengal'. A peep into the history of Bengal during the last 30 years highlights the baffling contradictions, abysmal work culture, poor implementation of schemes, increasing glorification of past that have haunted the state loud and clearly. Things have deteriorated further during Didi's tenure leading to its sordid downfall.

The recent classic example of Didi pleading to the Prime Minister to make Saurav Ganguly the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is ridiculous and hilarious. Indian cricket lovers have seen the greats like GR Viswanath, Anil Kumble, EAS Prasanna etc. from Karnataka. Never ever has a CM of Karnataka pleaded publicly to make these legends heads of national or international governing bodies of cricket. Likewise, Maharashtra has produced a host of living legends. No CM has advocated for them. Same is true in respect of other Indian states. Didi's advocacy for Saurav Ganguly to be nominated in the ICC showcases the bankruptcy of thought and her ignorance in the functioning of the apex international cricket body. The Prime Minister of any country, ostensibly, has no role in ICC. Morever, political interference is not warranted and desirable for the best interest of cricket.

Crimes against women

The recent incident of a girl student being pushed and killed by a stalker in front of a moving train in Chennai is a clear pointer of the growing violence against young women in suburban railway stations in Chennai, starting with the spine-chilling murder of the techie, Swathi in broad daylight by a man in 2016. As years will roll by further, these ghastly episodes may slowly ebb away from our memory, but the mountainous scar of pain and resentment the incidents left behind can never be obliterated from society. Fearfully enough, the growing trend of sexual overdrives by the present generation is causing more perils to the society. The increasing crimes against women are a jolt to their confidence, to our society, and to our judicial system as a whole.

We have a fundamental duty to contribute towards bringing an order to ensure dignity and respect for women, so that they can live with a sense of pride, freedom and confidence. Reforms in our legal system are the need of the hour, with stringent punishments meted out to the offenders in such a manner that the crimes are treated as non-bailable offenses. This may well act as a friction to those who perpetrate crimes against women.

Don't impose Hindi

One Nation, One Language is a concept that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is trying to impose consistently . In 2019, during his opening remarks at the Hindi Divas, he said, "India is a country of different languages. Each language has its own significance However, it is imperative that the entire nation speaks the same language, which will serve as its international identity. The most widely spoken language in India is Hindi, which has the power to unite the entire nation. The RSS's motto, 'One Nation, One Language, One Culture', is in keeping with this." The attempts to impose Hindi will only cause strife and division in a multilingual, multicultural, and diversified nation like India.
