Historical Session
The news headline, ‘I have a dream of golden Bodoland: CM,’ published in your esteemed daily on February 18, has drawn our attention. For the first time, the historical session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began outside the Dispur Assembly premises at BTC Legislative Assembly in Kokrajhar. It is indeed a landmark achievement and part of modern Assam history. The Bodoland region was indeed characterised by conflicts and violence at the turn of the 21st century. There was no sign of resolution of disputes. Bullets, grenades, bombs, rapes, torture, killings, and burning of houses had become the media of communication. People from different sections of society were kidnapped, tortured, and murdered. Even children and women were not spared. People lived in a society where there was a complete inversion of morality. Now, the situation has changed.
The aspirations for peace and happiness are seen to have found expression in BTC. The gloomy Bodo-non-Bodo politics of hatred and divide have gone. In this connection, the CM's statement that I have a dream of a golden Bodoland where Bodos and non-Bodos live in peace, think, and work together for the vibrant and inclusive development of all people has assumed great significance, as it will help foster the same environment in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao Autonomous Councils. Let us hope that the dawn of peace, happiness, and progress will continue to change the social, political, and economic landscape of the BTC shortly, and it will become a symbol of peace and unity and equal development and welfare of all sections of the society.
