Pension Directorate harassing teachers

Sentinel Digital Desk

The news reported by your daily about harassment of primary teacher by the Pension Directorate of the Government of Assam is a very sad affair running in the Directorate. The president and general secretary of the Assam Rajyik Prathamik Shikskak Sanmilini have alleged that the Directorate of Pension is harassing the primary teachers who have retired from service in getting their pensions, and in some cases pensions are not sanctioned to the teachers for a year after their retirement.

After coming to power of the new government four years back the employees use to get pension and other retirement benefits within short time as compared to earlier days. However, why these delays are happening in the case of primary teachers could not be understood. The Director of Pension Department should personally monitor the matter and see that the primary teachers are sanctioned their pension and other terminal benefits in time. It is a shame for the society if teachers have to run from pillar to post for their dues after serving the society for a long period of their life. One should understand that keeping of service record is not the duty of the individual but of the department.
