We are battling a wide range of societal problems that affect our society in today’s fast-paced and connected world. The predominance of a twisted mentality, which permeates many parts of our daily existence, is one such problem. Various manifestations of this warped thinking exist, such as objectification, sexual harassment, gender inequity, and the normalisation of harmful behaviours. To work towards creating a society that is healthier and more respectful for everyone, it is crucial to shed light on this issue and look at the underlying causes. The increase in sexual harassment and assault is one upsetting result of this twisted mentality. These problems still exist despite substantial efforts to spread awareness of them. Consent is ignored, boundaries are crossed, and power disparities are abused in an environment supported by a twisted mentality. Victims frequently encounter doubt, victim-blaming, and a lack of support, which feeds the abuse cycle and reinforces a culture of silence. It is essential to promote a culture of respect, inform people about consent and healthy relationships, and hold offenders responsible for their actions in order to combat this.
An environment of contempt and dehumanisation is fostered by this twisted attitude. People’s value as human beings is diminished when they are marginalised, harassed, or objectified. People feel inferior, uncomfortable, and detached from society because of this lack of respect and empathy. The cornerstone of successful relationships built on mutual respect, trust, and consent is undermined by this twisted mentality. It blurs the distinctions between consensual interactions and boundary violations and distorts perceptions of intimacy. This deterioration of understanding and trust can harm interpersonal ties, create dysfunctional situations, and prolong abusive cycles. This perverse mentality affects some women and children in the community. Society is undergoing rapid change. Our state, which leads the nation in violence against women, is in second place in the nation for child abuse. Over 16,000 incidences of child abuse have been reported in Assam over the past three years, according to the National Crime Records Bureau. Each year, on average, 38.3 kids experience molestation. This is one of the sad truths of our society.
Sexual disorder is one of the most unsettling problems facing society today. The scenario changes when the news is received, surprising regular people. In recent days, society has been distorted in an unimaginable way. Inhumane violence, sexual harassment, and horrifying torture are on the rise. Children and women are only suffering under these conditions, and their mental health is getting worse every day. Some people’s minds, especially those of the upper classes, appear to be seriously twisted. The atmosphere of society has been ruined by those individuals’ twisted thinking. Some individuals who formerly shone brightly in the field of higher education now appear to have reverted to beings who lived in the distant past. Numerous factors contribute to the long-standing incidence of violence, murder, torture, and sexual harassment in society. Children are frequently the victims of this abuse. The absence of security has also broken them. These mothers and children are apprehensive about going outside. This is a significant issue for today’s society and a cause for concern.
A broad strategy involving education, raising awareness, and encouraging empathy is needed to combat this twisted mentality. It starts with comprehensive sex education initiatives that teach consent, wholesome relationships, and respect for one another in addition to the biological components of sex. The media and advertising sectors have an obligation to combat objectification and advance a variety of truthful depictions. To promote a culture of respect, equality, and empathy, people must actively challenge their own prejudices, attitudes, and behaviours. We must face the grim reality that perversion is a part of modern culture. We can create a culture that values variety, upholds individual autonomy, and fosters healthy relationships by admitting the problem, looking into its origins, and working actively to bring about change.
