Radio turns to nostalgia

The word 'radio' raises a storm in the mind and hearts of many people. Still, everyone becomes nostalgic who had a regular schedule centring vivid colourful programmes of radio during past days. Radio was the only medium then to have entertainment and current happenings in and around. The use of radio started broadly all over the world in 1896. Ongoing modernization and presence of TV, internet, youtube, social media are the root cause of the less use of radio. In Assam, radio broadcasting started in 1948. The radio played a great role in the socio-cultural field of Assam and the country in the past decades. Some evergreen programmes of radio like Gitimalika, Chitrageet, Aaideur Buloni, Yuva Bani, Akonir Mel etc., always be in the heart of the Assamese people. Nowadays people hardly listen to the radio, but some of the people still regularly use to listen to the radio. I also use to listen to the news on the radio daily with my uncle. Very often I feel that radio news is better than the news of other media which are made for gaining TRP.

Future of online education

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in India, it has experienced a vast transition from offline mode to online mode of education. An important question arises out of the prevailing situation: Is the Indian education system ready to use this medium of instruction in the future? The answer to this question from my perspective is a no. Unlike many developed countries, the educational infrastructure in our country is lagging on many virtues. Some sections of people are completely unaware of the use of the internet, social media on mobile phones computers and so on. Some do not have enough capital to gain access to the same. Along with this the regularity and the moral obligation of the students who have access to electronic media, the internet, etc is also an important matter of discussion. There are only a few sections of students who actually turn out during online classes and attend them seriously. We are not kept aloof from the fact that during the past years few students have been found misbehaving and bullying their teachers online, and instead of studying they have enrolled themselves in using various social media sites and other stuff. The teachers in many schools do not know the uses of mobile phones and others which ultimately slacken the quality of education. Not to forget about the environment in various Indian houses where few parents are not serious about the studies of their children and let things go, while in schools teachers stick to the students and make them learn.

Thus, the future of online education in India looks obscure. The remedy to this could be bringing a vast transformation in the education system of India and strengthening the roots of online education. Along with this, there is a necessity of creating of suitable environment among the students and the parents as well.

Thus, Indians need to understand the loss being incurred by the students and practice the norms of COVID-19 to get out of this rat race.

Car parking zone at Panbazar

Through the esteemed columns of your daily, I want to draw kind attention to the severe issue of incomplete car parking zone at Panbazar.

A Multilevel Automated Car Parking at MG Road, Panbazar that has been left incomplete for the past couple of years. The project was sanctioned in 2011 but till now it has not been completed.

In Fancy Bazar every day, huge crowd gather here for shopping and visitors come by their vehicles but the main problem is that there is very little space for parking.

So, I appeal to the government to look into this matter.

True spirit

Olympic, the greatest show on the earth is going to start on July 23 in Tokyo. Accordingly, India too is sending its best contingent to take part in this mega show. PM Modi recently interacted with our athletes via video conferencing to boost the morale of the athletes. The interaction was very candid, true to good spirits. His message was loud and clear, participate and contest which is the true spirit of Olympic. Let us cheer for our heroes.

Tokyo Olympics 2020

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is just a week away. People are not so impressed with the games being held at a time when the world is in a battle against COVID-19. But the organizers had never thought of cancelling the games, which reiterates the fact that 'life must go on. A contingent of 119 athletes which happens to be the largest contingent of athletes India has ever send to the Olympics has packed their bags with the hopes and dreams of all Indians. India will be competing in 85 medal events and is confident of finishing it strongly on the medal tally. A total of 8 athletes have qualified for the mega event from the Northeast and Lovlina Borgohain is the lone athlete to represent Assam. Assam also had high hopes from Hima Das but she missed the qualifying time by a whisker. We all hope that she trains even harder to be unbeatable in the next Olympics in Paris. I want to wish every Olympian from India very good luck and hoping that they light up the Tokyo sky with shimmering medals. They know they are the best, it's time they prove it to the world.

Speaker's pronunciation

Last few days, the social media platform Facebook was flooded with posts from some attention seekers and media crazy people regarding pronunciations of Assamese words by Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari. We are aware that our tribal brothers and sisters have their way of pronunciation. The people of South India have a different style of pronunciation of English than the people of North India. Grammatically, Speaker Daimari was correct but a certain section was posting posts one after another asking for his removal from the Speaker's post. All this was done to please their immigrants' community. These sympathizers of religious immigrants have now the audacity to make fun of indigenous people's vocabulary but they are not worried that their loved ones (immigrants) are gradually outnumbering the original people of the soil and in future make their mother tongue the official language of Assam. The Government should keep an eye on the sympathizers of immigrants.
