Will separate rail board materialise?

Sentinel Digital Desk

With a lot of rosy promises like protecting ‘jati, mati, bheti’, the BJP captured power at Dispur in 2016. In practice, the Sarbananda Sonowal-led State government has failed on several counts in living up to the expectations of the people. The number of unemployed youths is increasing by leaps and bounds; what is more, even in a Central government department like Indian Railways, grade four posts are being snatched away from youths of Assam. Only recently, a good number of youths from outside Assam (hailing from North Indian States) came to join at the NFR Divisional offices at Lumding and Rangia and the other office at Dhemaji. Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) took up the matter with the Sate and Central governments, but the outcome was a big zero. With the passage of time, everybody, including the Chief Minister of the State forgets the issue. When 550 candidates from other States are all set to join NF Railways while 50 candidates have already joined the Lumding Division, there is again much hue and cry. But our leaders are still in deep slumber; even if someone jolts them to their senses, they are determined to look the other way. How long will the people of Assam swallow this bitter pill of humiliation? The promise of setting up a separate Recruitment Board (Railways) in the Northeast has evaporated. We again appeal to our Chief Minister to take up this matter with the appropriate authority.
