Assam-Born Pakistani Singer Nayyara Noor Passes Away At 71

Guwahati: Nayyara Noor known as ''Nightingale of Pakistan'' passed away at the age of 71 on Sunday.

Noor's nephew Rana Zaidi broke this news on his Twitter and left several of the singer's fans heartbroken.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved aunt (tayi) Nayyara Noor. May her soul R.I.P. She was given the title of 'Bulbul-e-Pakistan' because of her melodious voice. #NayyaraNoor," Rana tweeted.

Legendary Singer Nayyara Noor was born in the year 1950 in Guwahati, Assam, India, and her father was a businessman. Noor's father had come from Amritsar with the family and settled in Assam to increase his business.

Apart from this, Nayyara's father was also one of the active members of 'The all India Muslim League. Besides this, her father hosted the Assam tour of Pakistan's Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah before the 1947 India-Pakistan partition.

After the India-Pakistan partition, Nayyara moved to Lahore, Pakistan with her siblings and mother, although Nayyara's father lived in India till 1993 due to property. She was very fond of singing since childhood and was also fond of Bhajan singer Kanan Devi and Ghazal singer Begum Akhtar.

In 1968, during the annual function at the National College of Arts, Lahore, Professor Israr heard her singing and requested him to sing for Radio Pakistan programmes and from there she never looked back.
