Bangladesh Police Arrests Ikbal Hossain For Keeping Quran at Durga Puja Pandal

GUWAHATI: Bangladesh Police has finally managed to nab the prime accused in the Durga Puja violence case.

According to reports, Ikbal Hossain has been accused of placing a copy of the Quran at a Durga Puja pandal in Comilla was finally arrested by the police in Bangladesh from Cox's Bazar on October 21 night.

Earlier, the police had identified the 35-year-old man, whose action triggered communal violence in Bangladesh, by analysing CCTV footage retrieved from surveillance cameras installed outside the pandal in Comilla.

The video allegedly showed him moving in suspiciously with a Quran and then walking out with the gada, possibly of the Hanuman idol at the pandal where the Quran had been discovered.

At least three persons were killed in violence that followed after a copy of the Quran was found at the Nanua Dighir Par Durga Puja pandal in Comilla.

Meanwhile, the police in Comilla has filed four cases and made 41 arrests in connection with the violence that broke out at a Durga Puja pandal. Four of those placed under arrest are reportedly associates of Ikbal Hossain.
