New Delhi: In a bid to boost post-pandemic growth, the Canadian government has said that it would aim to take in 1.3 million immigrants in the next three years.
As per the 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will take in over 431,000 immigrations in 2022, higher than the 411,000 initially announced, 447,055 in 2023 and 451,000 in 2024.
According to a report, most of the immigrants in Canada have come from the economic class, of which about 60 percent are Indians. A report tabled in the Canadian Parliament earlier this week also pointed out that most immigrants to Canada still come from India.
"Due to the Corona epidemic, a small number of immigrants came to the country in 2020. However, 184,606 people were given permanent citizenship that year, of which about 23 percent or 42,876 people were Indians. The second-largest number of immigrants came from China. However, their number was only 16,535, while the number of NRIs is about two and a half times more,'' the report said.
In 2022, Canada granted permanent citizenship to 405,000 people. This was the first time Canada had granted permanent citizenship to such a large number of immigrants. Due to the shutdown of work during the Corona epidemic, 1.8 million visa/citizenship applications have been submitted to the Canadian government, which it is struggling to clear.
The Canadian government hopes that this will help it to accelerate the pace of growth after the corona pandemic and overcome the huge labour shortage. Most of the immigrant citizens in Canada are usually comes from India, in such a situation, Indians are expected to get the most benefit from Canada's new policy.
