Canada: A Canadian Member of Parliament of Indian origin Chandra Arya on Thursday won many hearts by speaking in his mother tongue Kannada inside the Canadian Parliament.
Chandra Arya, being an India-born legislator in Canada, stole the Indian hearts after delivering a speech in the Parliament of Canada in his home-language Kannada.
In the viral video, he declared that Kannada has been spoken for the first time in any foreign Parliament. Indian politicians and other internet users applauded him for the video where he took the honour to utter the words in Kannada.
In his lecture, he expressed his pride in taking the privilege to speak a few words in his native language and how he felt highly honored in making Kannada spoken in a Parliament outside his home country.
Arya conveyed his emotion through his tweet where he wrote that Kannada is a "beautiful language" bearing a prolonged history of around 50 million speakers to date.
"I spoke in my mother tongue (first language), Kannada in the Canadian Parliament. This beautiful language has a long history and is spoken by about 50 million people. This is the first time Kannada is spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India," tweeted Chandra Arya.
He further stated that being a native of a small village located in Karnataka, it was a proud moment for him to get elected to another country's Legislature.
The Canadian MP concluded his speech with a few phrases from the song, "Wherever you stay, however you are, be a Kannadiga always" having lyricists such as RashtraKavi Kuvempu and singer Natasaarvabhowma Dr. Rajkumar.
Hailing from a minor village situated in Sira Taluk around 70 km away from Karnataka in the district of Tumakuru, Arya appears for Nepean's electoral district, Ontario in Canada Parliament's lower house.
Arya was elected for representing Nepean of Canada's House of Commons in the federal election held in 2015, followed by his re-election in 2019. He completed his M.B.A from a Karnataka University-affiliated Institute, Dharwad. He has now created history by delivering a speech address in his mother tongue.
