According to reports, the man is suspected of stealing perfumes, cosmetics, and bags from at least 14 different shops.

The case came to light following a theft report filed on May 29, when a missing bag was discovered during a stocktake at a store in Jewel Changi Airport. A store supervisor noticed the discrepancy, prompting a review of the CCTV footage. Surveillance video reportedly showed the suspect taking the item and exiting the store without paying.

Authorities began investigating and were able to identify the man involved. However, by the time his identity was confirmed, he had already left Singapore. On June 1, when the suspect returned and was in transit at Changi Airport, police apprehended him.

The stolen goods were reportedly found in his possession, and he is expected to be formally charged with theft and fraudulent possession of property on Friday.

Singapore Police have emphasized their zero-tolerance policy toward such crimes. “Offenders should not think that they can evade capture by quickly boarding a flight. The police will continue to work closely with stakeholders to prevent and deter shop theft cases,” a police spokesperson stated.

This incident marks yet another case of shoplifting involving an Indian national abroad, drawing attention to the increasing vigilance at international transit hubs like Changi. The swift identification and arrest of the suspect underline Singapore’s strict enforcement policies and extensive use of surveillance to maintain airport security.
