BEIJING: By the end of January, almost all of Beijing's 22 million citizens will have contracted Covid, according to a recent research. According to a study that was published in the journal Nature Medicine, 92% of Beijing residents will be infected by the end of January while roughly 76% were already infected by December 22.

The report illustrates the Covid outbreak's quick spread in China as illnesses increase following Beijing's surprise relaxation of its "zero-Covid" policy in December. The study also discovered that after the policy changes, the virus's reproduction rate climbed to 3.44, which means that one individual who has the virus can infect 3.44 additional people.

Since Beijing opted to live with the virus last month, Covid has spread quickly throughout China, slowing down economic growth and generating reports of overcrowded hospitals and crematoriums.

A renowned Chinese epidemiologist had already issued a warning that the Covid wave will climax in China in the following two to three months. The Covid wave, according to Zeng Guang, a former top epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, will have a significant influence on the nation's rural areas.

"Large cities have been the primary focus of our attention. Time to pay more attention to rural areas "According to Zeng Guang and Reuters, the majority of people in China's rural areas do not have access to medical services, which could exacerbate the Covid issue there.

According to a leading Chinese epidemiologist, the peak of the covid wave in China is predicted to last two to three months and will have a significant impact on rural areas of the nation. Due of the large number of Chinese who will be returning home for the Lunar New Year holidays, cases will increase in rural areas. The holidays, generally known as the world's largest yearly migration of people, formally begin on January 21.
