Mekliganj: At least 12 policemen were injured after a clash erupted between the police and cattle smugglers at Ushalpukuri Gram Panchayat under Mekliganj police station, Cooch Behar last night.
These police personnel were attacked by a group of cattle smugglers when they tried to rescue cows brought to the border area for smuggling.
Reportedly, the injured police officials were rushed to the Mekliganj Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police nabbed six persons in connection with the attack and found that four of them were women.
Police also recovered 34 cows from the smugglers which were brought to the border area for smuggling into Bangladesh.
However, according to reports, Cooch Behar superintendent of Police (SP) Sumit Kumar has said that more raids will be carried out in this regard.
