NEW DELHI: Sakshi Kochhar, an 18-year-old from the small town of Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh, has made history by becoming the youngest Indian to obtain a commercial pilot license. While most teenagers her age are getting their four-wheeler vehicle licenses, Sakshi has soared to new heights in her aviation career. On her 18th birthday, she was awarded the certification for a commercial pilot license, setting a remarkable record.
In an interview, Sakshi shared her journey, recounting how her passion for flying began when she had the opportunity to pilot an aircraft in the United States. Not only did she successfully land the aircraft, but she also felt an overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment. Determined to pursue her dreams, Sakshi wasted no time and immediately applied for a commercial pilot license on her 18th birthday, which she received on the same day. She expressed her excitement, describing the achievement as a dream come true and an indescribable feeling of being "out of this world."
Sakshi's journey to becoming a pilot started at the age of 10 when she first developed a fascination with aviation. Despite hailing from a small town, she was determined to make her dreams a reality. Traveling approximately 8,500 miles to the United States, she left her family behind to undergo training. After four months of intensive theory training, she was assigned to an advanced flight training program at a designated center in the US.
Following her secondary education, Sakshi made the decision to join Mumbai's Skyline Aviation Club for her Commercial Pilot License (CPL) training. Her parents, immensely proud of her achievements, praised her dedication and commitment to setting and achieving her goals since childhood. Although they were initially unprepared for her ambitious dream, witnessing Sakshi's unwavering determination inspired them to support her wholeheartedly. Her father, Lokesh Kochhar, expressed his pride in her accomplishments, while her mother, Jyoti Kochhar, tearfully revealed that supporting her daughter's dreams has fulfilled her own aspirations.
Sakshi is not only a talented pilot but also a teenager with a zest for life. In her younger years, she learned to play the harmonium and consistently excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities. Her family cherishes her accomplishments and stands by her as she continues to pursue her passion for aviation.
