MUMBAI: Holi celebrations by a group of children turned fetal for a 41-year-old in the city of Mumbai. The man passed out after a water balloon hit him on his head and was declared dead when he was taken to a hospital.
The 41-year-old was identified as one Dilip Dhavade and was a resident of the Siddhivinayak Society of the Shivaji Nagar area of Vile Parle East. He was walking down the street when local children were hurling polythene bags filled with water at each other as water balloons. One of these packets hit him on his head and he fell on the ground unconscious and failed to respond to the calls of anyone following him being shifted to a hospital. But the authorities declared him dead on arrival. Also, the Vile Parle police had registered a complaint and proceeded with the autopsy of the deceased.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 10:30 PM on Monday. “Local residents were celebrating Holika Dahan and two groups were throwing water-filled balloons at each other at the spot,” mentioned a police official. He also added that the area has no CCTV camera so it is difficult to actually know what happened. He also mentioned that no mark of injury was found on the body of the victim and that they were waiting for the autopsy report to come. The police official also mentioned that a complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway.
According to the brother of the deceased, Dilip Dhavade had gone out form his home to purchase puran-poli, a popular local dessert, from a nearby restaurant when this incident took place. He used to work for a share trading firm and has left behind his wife, a seven-year-old son and a twelve years old daughter.
