NEW DELHI: Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma to the capital city of Dhakha on Tuesday in response to the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.

Just before 4:00 pm, Pranay Verma arrived at the foreign affairs office and was called to M Riaz Hamidullah's office, the acting foreign secretary.
Additionally, all consular functions at the assistant high commission in Agartala would "remain suspended until further notice because of security reasons," according to a Bangladeshi official.

The attack on the Bangladesh assistant high commission building in Agartala was denounced by the ministry of foreign affairs (MEA) on Monday. The MEA called the act "deeply regrettable" and emphasised that diplomatic and consular buildings should never be targeted.

The violation coincides with mounting tensions between India and Bangladesh, which have been made worse by an increase in attacks against Hindus and their places of worship in Bangladesh since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned earlier this year.
