Blast On Navi Ship INS Ranvir In Mumbai: 3 Navy Personnel Killed, 11 Injured

NEW DELHI: In a press release issued by the Indian Navy, it has been informed that a big blast occurred in the internal counterpart of INS (Indian Naval Ship) Ranvir.

According to officials, the explosion took place on Tuesday 18 January at the Naval dockyard located in Mumbai. It was also informed that the unfortunate accident occurred during the evening hours at around 04:30 pm when the ship was docked.

In the onboard explosion, three navy personnel sailing the ship lost their lives and at least 11 sustained major injuries as stated by the Indian Navy through a statement.

The deceased Navy personnel were identified as AK Singh MCPO (Master Chief Petty Officers) II, Krishna Kumar MCPO I and Surinder Kumar MCPO II.

The Navy officials said that the crew of the particular naval ship responded to the accident quickly and somehow managed to bring the situation under control.

According to the statement provided by a Navy official, there has been no serious material loss in the ship throughout the explosion.

A senior Navy officer informed that the blast mainly occurred at the AC compartment of the ship and all the three victims were at the compartment just above the AC compartment.

The Navy said that INS Ranvir was working on a cross-coast operation from the Eastern Naval Command from the month of November last year and was about to return back to the base port in a short period of time.

The statement further reads that a board of Inquiry has been directed to take action in investigating the matter thoroughly and find out the actual reason for the blast.

The Navy offers heartfelt condolences to the family members of the deceased navy sailors and ensured their support during this difficult situation.

The Indian Naval Ship Ranvir is one of the oldest warships in the Navy and it is a Soviet period aging destroyer. The INS was commissioned in the year 1986 in the month of April.
