NEW DELHI: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to derail the functioning of the Indian Parliament, following the controversial remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

Dubey had accused Congress of collaborating with US-based billionaire investor George Soros to undermine India's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on his official X handle, Gogoi slammed the BJP for still tolerating Dubey despite repeated requests from the Congress to take appropriate action against him.

Gogoi says that the Congress party wrote numerous letters to the Speaker, pleading that privilege proceedings be initiated against Dubey but all their pleas were ignored. He maintains that Dubey's remarks formed part of a larger BJP effort to disrupt parliamentary proceedings.

The Congress party has strongly criticized the statements by Dubey, insisting that the House will not work properly if the BJP MP is allowed to sit and participate in the proceedings. Gogoi added that even though the session protested against it, his name was still listed to sit and participate in the session.

This current deadlock between Congress and BJP raises the issue of the growing disagreement over parliamentary conduct as members of Congress have promised to continue their protest against the participation of Dubey unless any action is taken against it. The controversy has threatened the smooth functioning of the ongoing parliamentary session.
