PRAYAGRAJ: In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man from Delhi allegedly murdered his wife after taking a holy dip in the Ganga during the Maha Kumbh on February 18.
The accused identified as Ashok Kumar from Trilokpuri, Delhi, reportedly had frequent conflicts with his wife because she opposed his alleged extramarital affair.
After the crime, Kumar tried to mislead the police by filing a missing person’s complaint before going into hiding. However, his wife's body was later found in the bathroom of the hotel room they had rented a day earlier. Reports say the couple had refused to show ID proofs at check-in.
When the body was found, authorities sent it for a post-mortem and started an investigation. During questioning, Kumar admitted to slitting his wife's throat with a knife after an argument.
To cover this heinous crime, he disposed of the blood-stained clothes and the murder weapon in a dustbin at the mela area before fleeing. Officials revealed that he had been plotting the crime for the past three months.
Meanwhile yesterday, in a significant breakthrough, the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station had arrested a murder suspect after seven years. The crime had occurred on June 5, 2018, when Rezaul Hossain, a youth belonging to the minority community, was brutally hacked to death in the Bholanand Pally area in Agartala.
Upon investigating the case, the police had discovered that the murder had been committed by Rezaul’s friend, Hossain Ahmed, who had lured him to the crime scene with promises of sharing earnings from an illegal business.
