NEW DELHI: Delhi woke up to dense fog today as the cold wave continues in the national capital and in North India. Owing to the weather conditions, the Delhi airport issued an advisory about the possibility of delays in flight operations throughout the day.

Over 100 flights were delayed at Delhi airport on Friday morning due to adverse weather conditions, while numerous additional flights experienced subsequent scheduling disruptions. The national capital witnessed dense fog, resulting in zero visibility.

According to an official, while more than 100 flights faced delays, no diversions were necessitated during this period. "While landings and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) said in a post on X at 6:35 am.

The CAT III infrastructure enables aircraft to function during periods of poor visibility. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) manages the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which accommodates approximately 1,300 aircraft movements each day.

The weather department, India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicted that the cold wave will persist in the capital for the next couple of days. IMD said that ‘dense to very dense fog’ will continue in Delhi today and tomorrow.
