Bengaluru: Four people have been arrested in connection with the theft of 548 grams of gold ornaments from a house in Byrathi village, under the jurisdiction of Kothanur Police Station.
The theft came to light in May when the complainants discovered that gold ornaments kept in a room locker had gone missing. They had last seen the jewellery in January. Suspecting two domestic workers, a formal complaint was lodged on 9 June.
As investigations progressed, police summoned the complainant's niece for questioning. On 27 June, she confessed to orchestrating the theft with her friend and revealed that they handed over some of the gold to two more associates. These individuals melted the ornaments into gold bars, which were later sold in Chickpet’s jewellery market. The group split the proceeds and kept the rest hidden.
All four accused were arrested between 27 and 28 June from Kothanur and Gubbi Circle. During sustained interrogation, they admitted to their roles in the crime. Police later recovered 548 grams of gold, converted bars, and ₹10 lakh in cash from jewellery shops and the accused's residences.
On 4 July, one male and one female accused were granted bail, while the remaining two were remanded to judicial custody on 7 July. The search continues for additional missing gold ornaments.
The operation was led by DCP VJ Sajeeth (East Division), ACP M Murugendraya (Sampigehalli Sub-Division), and Inspector ML Chetan Kumar of Kothanur Police.
Police praised the swift teamwork that led to the recovery of stolen property and the unravelling of a meticulously planned heist.
