GUWHATAI: At dawn, just after midnight, when the rest of the country slept, India made one of its most extensive retaliatory attacks in decades.
In a daring and concerted effort, the Indian military simultaneously launched missile strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The mission, codenamed Operation Sindoor, was carried out under the veil of night and was a direct reaction to the inhumane Pahalgam massacre that took the lives of 26 innocent tourists.
The precision strikes, carefully planned and coordinated with stealth, left Pakistan unaware. The Indian government said that the operation hit and destroyed critical terrorist infrastructure, thought to have been utilized as launching pads for terrorist attacks against India. These establishments, intelligence sources said, were engaged in planning, training, and conducting cross-border terrorist operations.
Government sources exposed to India Today TV that more than 90 terrorists are said to have been eliminated in the operation. The magnitude and efficacy of the attack have registered an unprecedented escalation of India's anti-terror game. For the first time in years, the three wings of the Indian defense forces—Army, Navy, and Air Force—coordinated such a powerful, pre-emptive attack.
The backlash was instant, with Pakistan condemning the attack as an "act of war," indicative of the shock and outrage precipitated by the sudden and large-scale military action. With tensions mounting along the Line of Control (LoC), diplomatic avenues will likely face pressure in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Indian armed forces are due to address the press at approximately 10 a.m. today, when further information regarding the operation, such as precise targets and outcomes, is likely to be revealed.
