NEW DELHI: The Indian government has significantly escalated security measures at all airports and aviation facilities in response to the recent attack in Pahalgam and the heightened security situation across the country.

An immediate implementation of the highest level of security at all civil aviation installations, including airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, helipads, flying schools, and aviation training institutes has been mandated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

All passengers must undergo a secondary ladder point security check (LPSC) or pre-boarding check. Airport operators must ensure that all CCTV cameras are fully operational while visitor entry to terminal buildings has been banned.

Enhanced security will include strict vehicle and personnel checks at the airport approaches (naakas), parking areas, and at terminal entrances. As per the threat level, air marshal deployment will be adjusted.

The BCAS in its order stated that “In view of the recent attack in Pahalgam and subsequent surcharged security scenario, it is necessary to enhance security measures at all the civil aviation installations like airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, helipads, flying schools, aviation training institutes, so that no untoward incident takes place in the country. Accordingly, utmost precautions need to be taken by all the stakeholders.”

Meanwhile, ID verification for passengers and staff at airport entry points, along with random baggage screening before entering the premises, has been intensified.
