CHENNAI: A new glass bridge connecting the Thiruvalluvar statue and the Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday.
The bridge's transparent glass top offers tourists breath-taking views of the sea below, making it a unique visual experience.
On his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, CM Stalin posted a video of the bowstring-shaped bridge, providing an aerial perspective of the architectural wonder. The video demonstrated the panoramic surroundings and the elaborate design. The Chief Minister also walked across the bridge at the ceremony.
The inauguration of the Rs 37-crore glass bridge project in Kanyakumari by the Tamil Nadu government on December 30, coincides with the silver jubilee of the unveiling of the Thiruvalluvar statue by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Spanning 77 meters in length and 10 meters in width, the bridge connects two major landmarks: the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-foot Thiruvalluvar statue. The bridge provides visitors with stunning, unobstructed views of the sea and landscape, enhancing the area’s visual appeal while offering a scenic and accessible route between the monuments.
Previously, tourists relied on ferry services for the journey, but now, they can enjoy a comfortable, leisurely walk, reducing travel time. The glass bridge, designed as a bowstring arch, is durable and resistant to the region’s harsh marine conditions, withstanding salty sea air and high humidity. It promises an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
