NEW DELHI: India's Parliamentary Committee is likely to call on Meta officials after CEO Mark Zuckerberg commented on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

In his comments, Zuckerberg said the COVID-19 pandemic has destroyed trust toward the governments around the world and specifically referred to the BJP's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in India.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has revealed that he intends to summon Meta. He insisted on the need for Meta to correct this "incorrect information." Dubey elaborated, pointing out the ways in which such misinformation will damage a country's reputation as well as on the fact Meta must apologize, both to the Indian Parliament and before the public at large for the remarks.

Zuckerberg's remarks sparked significant backlash, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw labeling them as "misinformation" and urging him to uphold factual accuracy. In addition to discussing the erosion of trust in governments, Zuckerberg announced plans to replace traditional fact-checking methods with a feature called "community notes." This new approach would give users the power to correct misleading information, much like a system in place on the social media site X.
