Bangalore: After getting assurance from the state government on Thursday, the Kannada organisations have withdrawn the 'Karnataka Bandh' scheduled to be held on December 31st.

The Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai managed to convince the Kannada organisations to withdraw their band call.

''We had a long meeting with the leaders of Kannada organizations, where we discussed various issues. We have assured them that the state government will always support the Kannada activists to safeguard the interests of the state and urged them to withdraw the bandh as it would impact the businesses,'' the Chief Minister said while addressing the media after the meeting.

All the business activity will remain as usual on Friday as they responded to our request and have withdrawn the Karnataka bandh.

Earlier, a section of pro-Kannada organisations had called for a bandh to protest against the defacing of the Sangoli Rayanna statue and burning of the Kannada flag by miscreants.

Commenting on the same, the Vatal Nagaraj, the president of the Kannada Organisations Federations said that the Chief Minister has appealed to withdraw the bandh by assuring all the help in the interest of the state and language in future.

''Hence we have withdrawn the bandh to be held on December 31st,'' he added.
