Bengaluru: A 42 year old school teacher has alleged that her landlord had gifted lingerie on her birthday and also insisted her to put them on and show him in a shocking incident that unraveled in the capital city of Karnataka.
A complaint has been filed by the woman at the jurisdictional Hanumanthnagar police against Padmanabha, her landlord and a resident of Srinagar in South Bengaluru.
The woman told the police that she had been living in a rental house belonging to Padmanabha for the last 12 years and has worked as a schoolteacher.
Padmanabha gifted her a gift packet on her last birthday and she thought it to be a normal gift. She was astonished to find lingerie items instead.
The schoolteacher accused Padmanabha of asking her out and also demanded that she wear the innerwear which he gifted her and show the same to him. He allegedly started asking her for sexual favors over phone.
She also accused him of locking her house from the outside on the night of 11 January.
As a result, the schoolteacher approached Hanumanthnagar police on January 12 and decided to file a complaint against the landlord.
Subsequently, the police have registered a case against Padmanabha under IPC sections 441 (criminal trespass), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 354A(1) (ii) for demanding or requesting sexual favors.
Thereafter, Padmanabha was summoned by the police for interrogation. The landlord claimed that he is innocent and alleged that the teacher had filed a false case against him as he had asked her to vacate the house.
As per preliminary investigation, there was a dispute between the schoolteacher and the landlord over vacating the house. Padmanabha had indeed locked her house on January 11, while she was asleep inside, the probe revealed.
A police officer has said that they are investigating the gift and sexual harassment allegation and added that the police will take action against the suspect if the allegations turn out to be true.
