Lt Gen MU Nair Appointed as the Head of National Cyber Coordination Centre

Lt. Gen. MU Nair has acquired the crucial role of National Cyber Security Coordinator, which is a significant milestone. His successful experience as the Signal Officer in Chief at the prestigious Army Headquarters precedes this assignment.

NEW DELHI: On Monday, Lt Gen (ret.) Dr. Rajesh Pant was replaced as the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) by Lt Gen MU Nair. Previously, Lt Gen Nair served as Army Headquarters' chief signal officer.

The National Cyber Coordination Centre's (NCCC) new director is Lt. Gen. MU Nair, recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal. He succeeds Lt Gen (retd) Dr. Rajesh Pant and Gulshan Rai as the third cyber security chief of India. Nair is a distinguished National Defence Academy alumni.

Additionally, he has served as the additional director general, head of signal intelligence, chief of staff of a corps, and command. Nair has extensive knowledge of both domestic and international communication and information technologies, signal intelligence and cyberwarfare.

Lt. Gen. Nair will be instrumental in developing and putting into action plans to counter cyber attacks as the National Cyber Security Coordinator, assuring the security of critical data and systems in numerous industries. In order to improve cyber resilience and build efficient incident response systems, he will be responsible for coordinating efforts across government agencies, intelligence agencies, and industry parties.

Under the direction of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), the National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC) coordinates with several federal agencies on cybersecurity-related issues.

The NCCC is expected to improve the sharing of cyber intelligence and to create the situational awareness required to identify and respond to current and emerging cyber security threats.

The government's commitment to prioritising cyber security as a national necessity is reaffirmed by the selection of Lt. Gen. Nair as the National Cyber Security Coordinator. The nation can feel secure knowing that this important duty is being entrusted to a someone with such impressive credentials, who will take excellent care of its cyber defences.
