MUMBAI: Amid the continued suspense over Maharashtra's Chief Ministerial post, the Shiv Sena has taken a firm stand stating that Eknath Shinde will not accept the role of Deputy Chief Minister. According to Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat, the Mahayuti alliance's electoral victory was largely because of Shinde's leadership; hence he deserves the top position.

The Assembly elections were fought under Eknath Shinde's name. He deserves to remain the Chief Minister and will not accept a Deputy Chief Minister post," Shirsat told the media. He further mentioned that restoring Shinde as CM would strengthen the image of this alliance and it will profit during the next elections.

The Mahayuti alliance consisting of the BJP, Shinde-led Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP bagged a comprehensive win in the Assembly elections winning 230 out of 288 seats.

The BJP got 132 seats, while the Shiv Sena came next with 57 seats, and NCP with 41 seats. Meanwhile, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, or MVA, secured only 46 seats.
