MUMBAI: The Mumbai Police have received a threat message stating an intent to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official on Saturday. The message was traced to a number registered in Ajmer, Rajasthan, prompting the police to send a team to the location to apprehend the suspect.

The WhatsApp message, received on the traffic police helpline number in the early hours, mentioned two ISI agents and a plan to carry out a bomb blast targeting Modi, the official said.

The investigators suspect that the sender may be a mentally disturbed individual or possibly under the influence of alcohol, though further investigation is ongoing, the official added.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Mumbai traffic police helpline had previously received several hoax threat messages.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, Mumbai Police detained a 34-year-old woman on Wednesday following an anonymous call to the control room claiming an assassination plot against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The call was received at 9:13 AM and stated that the weapon was ready for the plan. In a swift action, the police traced the location of the caller's mobile to Andheri before it went off. Following this, there was heightened alert across the city.

A technical investigation helped the authorities trace the woman to the Kandivali area in the evening itself. Amboli Police, led by Senior Inspector Sadashiv Nikam, confirmed that the woman had acted out of frustration with the administrative system and had no links with any criminal organization.

She also did not have a record of serious crimes but was known to have made some minor distress calls to the police control room in the past.
