NEW DELHI: The state of Maharashtra has rung the bell in the 'Best Performing States' group by receiving accolades from Swachh Survekshan Awards for its outstanding work in efficient waste management and safeguarding Safaimitra.

Indore has successfully secured the highly sought-after accolade of being named the cleanest city for seven consecutive years, in an outstanding demonstration of urban cleanliness and commitment. The announcement was made on Thursday as part of the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023, setting a remarkable standard for other cities across India to aspire towards.

The Swachh Survekshan, renowned as the biggest survey of urban cleanliness across the globe, recognizes not only tidiness but also prioritizes tackling environmental issues. Maharashtra took pole position in the 'Best Performing States' classification with Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Chhattisgarh just behind them.

Madhya Pradesh, a state in India, stood out by receiving six accolades across multiple categories. Cities such as Bhopal, Mhow Cantt, Amarkantak Norozabad and Budhni along with Indore were applauded for their exceptional efforts towards upholding cleanliness standards. The ceremony honouring the winning entities is scheduled to take place in New Delhi where notable dignitaries like Chief Minister Mohan Yadav; Urban Development & Housing minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and State Minister Pratima Bagri will be present.

The rankings of Swachh Survekshan 2023 demonstrated a strategic change that highlighted the significance of tackling old dumpsites, managing plastic waste effectively and adopting reduce-reuse-recycle principles. Furthermore, the survey underlined Safaimitras' essential role in ensuring safety for those participating in sanitation activities, thus reaffirming the dedication to their well-being.

The forthcoming Swachh Survekshan Awards ceremony, to be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, will acknowledge the commendable endeavors of cities and states in promoting cleaner and healthier urban landscapes. Besides commemorating accomplishments, these awards also play an imperative role as a rallying cry towards implementing permanent measures for sustainable waste management practices throughout India.
