NEW DELHI: On the second day of the winter session of the Parliament, Lok Sabha was adjourned early following a disruption raised by opposition MPs over several national issues.
Congress MPs filed notices for adjournment motions to discuss the US indictment of the Adani Group, the ongoing violence in Manipur, and unrest in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh.
The three MPs of Congress, Manickam Tagore, Randeep Singh Surjewala, and Manish Tewari, decided to move to adjourn the house for the day so that such matters may come out of the daylight.
The notice given by Tagore highlighted recent US charges of bribery and securities fraud against Gautam Adani, asking for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's explanation over his connections with the Adani Group.
Surjewala also filed a similar notice in the Rajya Sabha, calling for suspension of scheduled business to discuss the issue. Tewari said the allegations against Adani would have a damaging effect on the image of India as a business destination.
Congress MP Hibi Eden also demanded that a discussion be held over the deteriorating situation in Manipur and asked the government to take immediate measures for the restoration of peace and justice there.
The successive agitations underscored the urgency the opposition wanted to address these urgent issues, making it tough for the government to guide the session back on track. The Parliament winter session is scheduled to run till December 20.
