Olympic Medallist Mirabai Chanu Joins PM Modi’s Anti-Obesity Campaign

PM Modi nominated 10 prominent figures, including Mirabai Chanu and Omar Abdullah, to combat obesity and promote reduced edible oil consumption, urging collective action for healthier living.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement of nominating ten eminent people from different walks of life to support initiatives against obesity and raise awareness about lowering edible oil intake in food. One of the nominees is Olympic silver medallist and weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who has been outspoken about the need for lifestyle modifications in solving health issues.

The list of nominees includes Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, businessman Anand Mahindra, actor Mohanlal, Bhojpuri singer-actor Nirahua, shooter Manu Bhaker, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, singer Shreya Ghoshal, actor R. Madhavan, and philanthropist Sudha Murthy. Chanu expressed her gratitude for the nomination, stating on X, “Elated to be nominated by PM @narendramodi_in ji to spread awareness in the fight against obesity. Making small changes to our daily lives can result in a huge transformation all over the country and help us move towards achieving our dream of making a fit India.”

The Prime Minister's announcement follows his recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, where he urged citizens to take proactive steps to combat the growing health issue. He urged individuals to cut down their oil consumption and challenge ten others to do so as well, with the goal of inspiring a greater movement for healthy living. PM Modi's X post highlighted the need for people working together in tackling obesity and encouraging improved eating habits.
