KAKINADA: A 37-year-old ONGC employee allegedly killed his two minor sons over their poor academic performance before taking his own life, a police official said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday on the day of Holi in Vakalapudi of Kakinada district.

Police said the father, V. Chandra Kishore, allegedly drowned his two sons in a bucket of water at around 10 AM on Friday, upset over their academic performance.

"Kishore killed his sons due to their poor academic performance, fearing they would struggle and suffer in a competitive world if they did not excel in their studies. Unable to bear this thought, he took the extreme step," the official told the media.

A suicide note was found and is being examined, the official said, adding that forensic teams are involved, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.

In her complaint, Kishore's wife, Rani, stated that she found her husband hanging in the bedroom and their children lifeless in a bucket.

Meanwhile, earlier, the Gauripur police arrested a suspect in the murder of Rahul Hussain, alias Ali, a class 9 student from Assam's Dhubri. The 15-year-old was found dead on December 26, 2024, near National Highway 17 in Targhat, which led to outrage and calls for justice from his family and community.

When Rahul's body was found, his family registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Gauripur police station, reporting that their son had been killed by a group of miscreants who then left his body behind. Despite their continuous efforts to seek justice, the family alleged delays and inaction by local authorities.
