The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the list of 323 feature films eligible for the 97th Academy Award, which is set to take place in two months. Among the 207 films vying for the Best Picture category, seven Indian films are included.
Seven Indian films are competing for the Best Picture category at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards. The contenders include Kanguva (Tamil), Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life) (Hindi), Santosh (Hindi), Swatantrya Veer Savarkar (Hindi), All We Imagine as Light (Malayalam-Hindi), Girls Will Be Girls (Hindi-English), and Putul (Bengali).
The movie 'Putul,' directed and produced by Indira Dhar, has made history as the first Bengali film to be considered for a nomination in the prestigious Oscars.
Indira shared, "Achieving this milestone is not just a recognition of my work but a celebration of every dreamer who dares to believe. I am very happy and would like to thank the Academy of Motion Pictures and the Oscar committee for considering our film to compete for the Best Picture category among thousands of other entries worldwide."
Meanwhile, earlier last month, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for 10 categories for the 97th Academy Awards.
The categories include Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live-Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects. Films that lead the pack include ‘Dune: Part Two,’ Emilia Perez’, ‘Wicked’, ‘Gladiator II’, ‘Nosferatu’, ‘The Apprentice’, ‘The Wild Robot’, and ‘Blitz’ which have been shortlisted across various categories.
The first round of Oscar voting will begin on January 8, 2025, and will close on January 12, 2025. The nominees for all categories will be announced on January 17, 2025. Final voting will take place from February 11 to February 18, 2025.
